Highlighting data

If there are many different displayed categories on a report or dashboard, you may find it challenging to identify and single out any subset of data from the rest. In this case, you may choose one of two paths: You can reduce the visualized data on the page or else keep the overall visualized data pool on the page but highlight those data you find interesting. To highlight data, make selections in the highlight legend or else directly in visualizations.

  • To make one or more selections directly in a visualization, select the first item you would like to highlight (in the visualization), and then ctrl-select all remaining items you would like to highlight within the same visualization.

It's important to note what type of thing you are highlighting when you select directly in a visualization. To do this, take note of what the label of the highlight legend is (in the example, below). Whatever the legend allows you to highlight from the legend is what is highlighted from visualization selections.

Note: The visualizations shown, below, are examples and may not be from the same dashboard or report you are currently viewing.

When you make selections in one place (for example, a table), the aggregate selection is highlighted in other visualizations on the same page. For example, on a page with a pie chart, a legend, and a table, you can turn on the highlighting feature and select items anywhere on the page. The result is that all representations of data highlight items corresponding to the selections.

Note: Regardless of where you are selecting, you must first activate the highlight feature (  ) in order for selections to translate into highlighting.
